Is Photoshop Worth Getting?

I'm pretty sure you heard it from most people or colleagues when they tell you it depends on you and what you plan on doing. Photoshop is not for everyone and by no means should you waste you hard earned money on an expensive creative program you think you're barely going to even touch. If you think you want to further invest in creating digital content for your future, then you should go all out. If not, DON'T buy Photoshop and just try the free trial first!

Photoshop has a vast arsenal of capabilities and tools for limitless content creation. I highly recommend Photoshop for those who are avid or dedicated aspiring digital creators and freelance artists. Photoshop is ranked highly but comes with a steep budget. Sometimes that can get overwhelming for the inexperienced or beginners which wouldn't make Photoshop ideal for starting out.

If you think you're going to invest yourself in future content creating or creating works on a professional level, then you have to get Photoshop!

The most important thing is factoring in price. Oh boy! Adobe and their infinite wisdom decided a while back to just offer their software suite as monthly or annual plans instead of perpetual (permanent). This means you will be paying out of pocket either on a monthly or yearly bases on top of the steep learning curve of their products. This can go both ways: are you willing to pay the extra dollars for a creative suite that may or may not have the software that you want to use or find an alternative that's cheaper but doesn't have Adobe's prominent tool functions? Like I said before, it all depends on your needs and your plan in the future. Are you willing to invest in content creation and willing to splurge or just doing a one-time thing and just do some minor artworks. There are a lot of free photo editing software alternatives to Photoshop out there, just not as advanced.

Here's a price list of Adobe's Creative Suite Tiers as of 2022:

  • Creative Cloud - All Apps (Regular Price): US$54.99/mo

  • Individual Apps - Ranges Between US$19.99 - $20.99/mo

  • Business Plan - All Apps (Regular Price): US$84.99/mo

  • Business Plan - One App Per License: US$35.99/mo

  • (Recommended) Student Creative Cloud Plan - All Apps: US$19.99/mo

By no means this is meant to discourage you from buying Photoshop or give up starting your career as a content creator, it's just to give you a sense of what you're getting into. Be prepared by the fact that your money will decrease exponentially but the results are well worth it!

In conclusion, is Photoshop worth getting? Well yes and no. It's worth getting for all those fancy tools and brushes to create dynamic artworks and knowing what the industry is using it too but also, is it worth sacrificing your bank account and the probability you're even going to constantly use the program on a daily basis? In the end, it all depends on you. Plus, there's a lot of other great programs for digital art such as Clip Studio Paint and Krita which is completely free and open-source.
